Block Box

The Block Box is a custom piece of furniture designed to house a set of children’s building blocks. The blocks are stored in a drawer that is hidden behind a set of double-doors. There are two pairs of swiveling casters on the bottom of the box; one set attached to the frame and the other to the drawer. They were placed this way, so the box does not tip over when the drawer is extended. This project was completed over one month and the box still resides at the firm, where it is used by the children of clients.

My Role

I was the only person working on this project, so my responsibilities included everything from conceptualization and design, to procuring and cutting the wood. During the project, I also learned VectorWorks, a CAD program for architects, and built prototypes to test the drawer extension mechanism and doors.
