Thruster for Roll Control
2015 Boston University Capstone Project

The purpose of the Monopropellant Rocket Thruster was to evaluate the feasibility of catalytic decomposition of Nitrous Oxide (N2O) as a low-cost solution for thrust generation. This system was intended for use in the Boston University Rocket Propulsion Group’s launch vehicle roll control system, and served as the subject for a team capstone project during my senior year. Although my team was provided with less than $1000 and three-months’ time, we were able to design, analyze, fabricate, and perform cold flow testing on the system. The project was based off the PhD thesis of Kevin Lohner of Space X.
My Role
My role was to manage the team. This included delegating tasks, defining timelines, and providing updates to team members and the customer. I also assisted with a variety of technical tasks such as pressure and thermal analysis and designing the thruster body and test-stand.
